We arrived at St. Mary's hospital on Friday morning (March 19th). Kenna spiked a fever and was very crabby and not herself. She has been a really easy going baby up until now so I knew something was wrong. The doctors were very concerned because she is only 2 weeks old with a fever. She really didn't have any other symptoms.
The nurses at St. Mary's started getting samples to look for something that could be the cause of this fever. She was poked and prodded all day long. It was an emotionally draining day to see my little girl screaming and there was nothing I could do to help her.

Today was a long day of waiting with no real answers. Only 1 test came back and thankfully it was negative. So, all I know as of right now is that she doesn't have influenza or RSV. She has slept most of the day. She cried most all of the night. It was a real long night for both of us. She continues to spike her fever and tylenol brings it down...but no real change today.

We slept this morning since we both didn't sleep last night. Not a lot of change today. She continues to have fevers and isn't eating well at all. I know that people all over are praying and that is really encouraging!
Tomorrow hopefully we can find out all the tests results and hopefully go home. That all determines if her fever goes down and if she looks and feels better.

Last night Kenna was up a lot of the night. She just wants to be held. Thankfully, a nurse was able to come up and hold her for a little while so I was able to get a little sleep. I don't know how tired I am until I wake up from sleeping. But, I try not to think about it!
We were able to sleep for a few hours this morning. We had 2 doctors, 2 residents, and a nurse in for our morning assessment. So, in order for her to go home she has to meet certain criteria. These are the 3 they are checking out: 1st she needs to eat much better than she is, 2nd- she needs to have a negative test result (still waiting for that one--maybe tomorrow afternoon). and 3rd-she can't have any fevers.
So, that is where we are at. She hasn't had any fevers for 24 hours so that is wonderful...pray that she can start eating better.
Praying also for a restful sleep tonight. Since she has slept a lot of today that may be a challenge again. Poor girl has her nights and days mixed up.
I will keep everyone updated as I know more!
Thanks.
She has slept a lot of today so far.

Over the night I really pushed Kenna's fluids. So, I am nursing her as well as pumping and giving her more via a bottle. The alternative is to have it inserted through a tube and I don't want that. She seems to be wanting to eat more so that is very positive!
Overall, our night last night went really well. I got maybe 3-4 hours of sleep so that is good. Today we were just waiting for the HSV test to come back from the state lab to see if she has that virus. If not, there was talk about going home today.
I waited, and waited all day but guess what...the tests didn't come back today...bummer. So, it looks like we will have another night here at the hospital. Maybe tomorrow we can go home!

I got word right away this morning that all the tests are negative and we are able to go home! Yay. Kenna woke up this morning very smiley and that just melted my heart!
I can't wait to go home!
